ICOP and partner PKM Solutions have participated in the INCOSE Tool Vendor Challenge 2008. The Tool Vendor Challenge is part of the programme of the annual symposium of the International Council On Systems Engineering. Daan Oostinga explained the Systems Engineering tools called BriefBuilder and VerificationManager. ICOP has developed these SE-Tools with the latest PKM Software called Relatics. The tools are used for composing, managing and testing specifications in complex construction projects.
ICOP has been contracted by the Dutch Building Agency to aid in developing output specifications for a new accomodation of several parts of the Ministry of Justice. The new complex is planned near Schiphol Airport.
The project consists of a detention facility for 580 detainees, courtrooms, offices and a facility for persons applying for asylum. The project will be tendered as a PPP because of the administrative complexity. (source: VROM/Rijksgebouwendienst)
On october 11, ICOP will facilitate a workshop about office- and workplace design as requested by the companies Martela (Finland) and Ahrend (Netherlands). In this workshop Juriaan van Meel will go into recent trends and evaluations of existing office concepts. The economy in Poland is growing and so is the importance of knowledge intensive labour. Therefore the interest in productivity of the workplace is increasing.

Whoever wants to quickly and transparently select an architect can use ArchiSelect. A digital procedure, invented by Daan Oostinga and Herman Hoekman. For this publication in Aspecs, Dirk van Ginkel interviewed several people who are regularly involved or participating in Architect selection processes.

At this moment the foundation PSIB* is in the process of fininshing up an evaluation report on the use of the 'VerificationManager'. This application (developed by ICOP and PKM Solutions) is an innovative softwareapplication to systematically verify and validate design solutions. It helps executive and designing parties with checking their designs to the specifications of the client. The VerificationManager has been used for the first time by Strukton for the PPP renovation of the Dutch Ministry of Finance.

Every year the London Business School organises the Technology Feasibility Competition where entrepreneurs can pitch and demonstrate the feasibility of their technology-based business. The competition helps young entrepreneurs develop their business plans and network with like-minded people, experts and venture capitalists. The winner of the 2007 Technology Feasibility Competition is Hermen van Ree with Brief Builder, ICOP’s web-based tool for managing client specifications in PFI projects. Next steps involve setting up a UK pilot project through the UrbanBuzz Programme and participation in the London Entrepreneurs Challenge.
Daan Oostinga and Frank Hoekemeijer describe a recently developed quality control system for PFI projects. Closely involved with the redevelopment of the Dutch Ministry of Finance, ICOP was asked to ensure that all biddings accurately meet client specifications. In order to meet this demand, ICOP and PKM Solutions developed a verification model. By intelligently relating bidding specifications to client specifications, the model indicates to what extend bids comply with requirements. The quality control model is currently in use by both clients and bidders.
In this issue of Building Innovation, the whereabouts of ICOP and PKM Solutions as winners of the 2005 Construction Innovation Award are described. Highlights are positive feedback from clients using our methods and methodology.
Recently, ICOP won the Construction Innovation Award for a second time with Archi-Select, a method to select the right architect based on verifying design solutions against client specifications.
